Here is a little more from Kristie!
Kristie Tacey, Winemaker and Founder of Tessier Winery, is a scientist turned winemaker. A former published research scientist who studied protein pathways, she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area from her native Michigan to pursue a career in biotechnology, which included working on the Human Genome Project. Kristie eventually came to realize that winemaking was her true calling; and after working as operations manager and assistant winemaker at an award-winning East Bay winery.

Tessier Winery was founded in 2009 and focuses on small, hand-crafted lots of natural wines. In the cellar, we practice native fermentations and minimal intervention to allow each vineyard to speak for itself. We have selectively chosen organically farmed family owned and operated vineyards that are in local regions that we feel best express the varietals we love and are inspired by.

Here is a little more from Dr. Chris!
Wachira Wines is the premier Kenyan-American winery in the United States. Founded in 2017 by Dr. Chris Wachira, Wachira Wines is rooted in a celebration of her dual Kenyan-American heritage and is located in the City of Alameda, California. “I struggled to find my palate represented in the wine industry and wanted to create something that was deeply meaningful to me. My mother cooked these incredible lamb stews for our Sunday family dinners, and I couldn’t find a wine to complement our meals,” said Dr. Chris. This gap ignited a passion in her to craft her first wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon, that paired beautifully with the flavorful Kenyan cuisine. That was the genesis of:

Californian wines with a Kenyan accent!

Dr. Chris had a long-standing career in healthcare having spent over 15 years in Neurosciences at Stanford Healthcare. Given her STEM background, she fell in love with the science of winemaking and developed a deep appreciation for the sense of community built from sharing a bottle of wine with complete strangers.

Here is a word from our friend Chris.
"Barterra Winery is an urban winery with a tasting room in Princeton Harbor in Half Moon Bay. We believe that wine tasting should be approachable and educational. We offer guided tastings in a relaxed atmosphere where you can experience and learn about unique varietals and blends from the finest wine regions in Northern California. We also offer wines by the bottle and by the case at our Tasting Room and our website.

We have a hands-on approach, visiting the vineyards who prioritize growing quality grapes and only harvest by hand. Our winemakers focus on crafting European-style wines that can be enjoyed now and have the potential for aging. We meet with our winemakers on a regular basis to stay up-to-date with harvest trends and ensure the quality of our wines.

  • Makasi

The Makasi Pinot Noir (Santa Cruz) was on our bottle list. Notes of bright cherry, strawberry, and forest floor.

Here is a bio on our friend and winemaker Danny.
Makasi means thank you in Bahasa, the mother tongue of our winemaker's
goddess wife; hence, "Makasi - Wines of Gratitude".
"Our wines are produced and bottled by hand on Treasure Island, amid the San Francisco Bay, in a collective winemaking facility housed in an old WWII Naval Post Exchange. Cooling air from the Golden Gate pours through to create idyllic cave-like conditions in which to ageour wines. We are a boutique winery, offering only what we can produce in our attentive and nurturing way. With a lot of help from our friends we procure a modest collection of fantastic grapes grown in the right place and picked at the right time, enabling us to allow them to bloom into splendid wines. Growing up one of six kids, winemaker Danny Sullivan learned early on to be a good sharer. Sharing in the Makasi wine love as partners and strategists are his little brother, Tommy Sullivan, and big sister,
Maureen Sullivan. Danny has been prolifically making wines for over 20 years for household names, small private labels, and clients' personal collections. After many successful launches for others, he's now doing it on his terms to create exceptional wine for you. His passion and specialty is to produce a delicate elegant style of Pinot noir.
